Thanks for stopping by! I’m Anne Hockenberry – creator of art, lover of God, and sharer of dreams (or should I say opinions?). I started my blog and Etsy shop last year on a whim during a week of snow days when I had some time off from my job as a teacher. This whim has slowly morphed into a part-time job that has been an adventure, challenge, and blessing.
When I was younger, growing up in a small house with four siblings, I used to escape to the attic of our playhouse and stare out the window at the birds that played in the trees. I poured over nature books and read the names and descriptions of birds. My first real artwork at a homeschool art fair was of birds. If you visit my Etsy shop, you’ll see plenty of little feathered friends. Do you see a theme here? So when it came time to name my shop and blog, Birds and Berry seemed to be a perfect combination of my name and interest.
What else do I enjoy? I love to look for beauty in the ordinary. My artwork reflects my love of nature. As a type-A individual, I get a sense of peace and respite through painting.
I’m a sinner saved by God’s grace. I am a firm believer that I am not good enough on my own, but that by God’s grace, I am treasured and loved. If you stick around this blog for long, you’ll see how He works in my failings and teaches me in my short-comings. I hope to encourage you to grow in your knowledge of God and to be overwhelmed by His grace.
I’m married to an adventurous mountain man and we love hiking, philosophizing, and watching reruns on Netflix. We recently made the adventurous move from North Carolina to Wyoming to join our friends’ church and to be in my husband’s beloved west.
This blog is a little place for me to share the beauty I find and create, and encourage others through what God is teaching me in this wild and wonderful life. I hope to awaken in you the ability to see beauty in the ordinary. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
